What DEWA approval means

In Dubai, grid-connected solar cannot be installed by any company that simply holds a trade licence. DEWA only allows enrolled solar PV contractors, with DEWA-certified engineers on staff, to design, submit and connect systems under the Shams Dubai programme. A system installed by anyone else cannot be legally connected.

Three checks before you sign

  1. Enrolment. Confirm the company appears on DEWA's enrolled contractors list.
  2. Category. Confirm the contractor's category covers your system size.
  3. Equipment. Ask for module and inverter datasheets and check they are on DEWA's approved list with MoIAT ECAS conformity.

A contractor who hesitates on any of these checks is telling you something. Each takes a few minutes and removes most of the risk in a solar project.

Frequently asked questions

How do I check if a solar contractor is DEWA approved?

Look the company up on DEWA's list of enrolled solar PV contractors and consultants, and confirm its category covers your system size.

What happens if a non-approved contractor installs my solar system?

It cannot be legally connected to DEWA's grid under Shams Dubai, so you would not benefit from net metering.

What do DEWA contractor categories mean?

Enrolled contractors are categorised, and the category determines the size of system they may deliver. Check that the category covers your project before signing.
